Whidbey Winery Weekend

Getaways to our friend’s Whidbey home are idyllic. It’s the best setting with proximity to Seattle – the ferry ride makes the excursion feel remote even though it’s only long enough to snap a few pics. This past weekend away was particularly enjoyable with rosemary gin spritzes on the beach (Kelsey is the ultimate hostess), witnessing lil’ Row Row experience sand for the first time, and a chef’s wine pairing dinner at the quaint Spoiled Dog Winery.

Hayden Holiday

Paddle boarding by day; boating under fireworks by night.  And huckleberry pancakes.  And huckleberry vinaigrette.  Oh, and homemade huckleberry ice cream.  Those are annual 4th of July endeavors at our family cabin on Hayden Lake and reasons America’s birthday is quite possibly my favorite holiday.

Aren’t these saturated tulip fields the most vivid backdrop for chrysoprase?!

New Year, New Venture

Birthdays are a wonderful time to both reflect over the past year and also dream what the next year might bring. Day to day, my never ending to-do list can be overwhelming and pieces I hoped to complete are left at the bench. This feeling settles in like a stormy cloud, creeping in sometimes without warning. However, when I step back and look at the big picture, I feel nothing but pride and accomplishment.  The positive response from my website and collection launch has been thrilling and for that I’m so grateful. My hope for this blog is to chronicle my world in and out of the studio.

This past weekend celebrating on Whidbey Island was what every birthday should be: indulgent, relaxing, and inspiring. The Inn at Langley is a true gem overlooking Saratoga Passage in the Puget Sound. James Beard nominee Matt Costello’s Chef’s Tasting Dinner was the epitome of spring from rhubarb juice with crème fraiche to lamb with mustard flowers, black mint, and morels. Walking off the ten courses and wine pairings in the quaint town of Langley with its picturesque harbor backdrop and island elements was a dream. Quintessential Pacific Northwest spring weather brought a mix of gorgeous blue skies and overcast drizzle, creating a striking rainbow and a needed reminder that even stormy days have beauty.
